Yash is firm on values, heritage, and traditions of his ancestors, which he tries to pass onto his two sons. Rahul, the eldest son found out at the age of 8 that Raichands had adopted him, which is deeply considers it as a debt for the rest of his life. Every word, wish, and thought becomes charter etched in stone for Rahul, which he would never break. Rahul breaks his charter when he dared to do the unpermissable by his father-fall in love. He falls in love with Anjali (Kajol) who lives the Dehli’s discouraged Chandni Chowk with her younger sister Pooja (Kareena Kapoor) and father Bauji (Alok Nath). The day after the death of Bauji, Rahul marries Anjali and brings her home as the new "ghar ki bahu." Yash is broken into pieces and hammers with a speech on Rahul. Rahul’s wedding night was the night where he was disowned, considered never in existence by Yash. Rahul leaves the very house where he considered a haven, for what his mother taught him to believe in. Rohan had been sent away to boarding school only to return after graduating from college. When Rohan finds what had, his only goal is to reunite the family. Will he be successful in finding where his best friend brother is settled? Will he manage to convince his stubborn father?
